God has not left you defenceless.
That is the message at the heart of Ephesians 6 — and it is one of the most practical and reassuring passages in all of scripture. The apostle Paul, writing from prison, pauses at the end of one of his greatest letters to say something urgent: before you go out into the world, make sure you are dressed for it.
Paul was writing in a Roman prison, surrounded by Roman soldiers in full battle dress. He knew exactly what armour looked like — the weight of it, the purpose of each piece, the vulnerability of a soldier without it. He chose this image deliberately. Because the Christian life is not a peaceful stroll — it is a walk through contested territory. The enemy is real, his opposition is real, and the battle is real. But here is what is equally real: God has made full provision for every believer to stand firm.
The armour is not something you manufacture through effort or earn through performance. It is something God has provided — and your job is simply to put it on.
